The Silicon Power MMCmicro mini memory card for the new generation of mobile phones

2005-08-31

TAIPEI, TAIWAN (Aug.31, 2005) New generation 3G mobile phones have become increasingly available in the global market today. In Taiwan, about 20-30 different kinds of 3G mobile phones are launched each month. The new era of 3G mobile phones provides an even faster abilities and greater convenience. This enables people to listen to more music and to view more high-bandwidth content such as videos and high-resolution digital images. In order to store so much information in a 3G mobile phone, high quality and very stable mobile phone memory cards are definitely an important accessory for cell phone addicts.

As the digital data storage industry continues to put great efforts into developing, manufacturing and marketing brands in the global market, Silicon Power, has recently launched a mini MMCmicro flash memory card for mobile phones after having just launched a whole line of MMC Plus memory cards. This MMCmicro flash memory card is 12mm x 14mm x 1.1mm in size, which is one-third of the size of SanDisk’s RS MMC memory card (18 x 24 x 1.4mm). MMCmicro also has a high read/write speed of 10MB/sec, showing steady performance.

The Silicon Power MMCmicro memory card has excellent added features. It supports dual operating voltages of 1.8V/3.3V and read/write operations of over 100 thousand times, and enjoys a great capacity for audio and video contents. Designed for rugged use, its shock-resistant ability prevents the “skipping” like effect found in traditional CD players when retrieving data from the memory card. The MMCmicro memory card also has reasonable longevity and low power consumption, which allows for the clear presentation of multimedia in the new generation of mobile phones. According to the estimation from Gartner, the world renowned provider of research and analysis for the global information technology industry, the growth rate of MMC memory cards will reach 61% by year 2007, meaning it could possibly become the standard flash memory card for next generation mobile phones, MP3 players, PDA’s and other digital products.

The Silicon Power MMCmicro flash memory card currently offers two card capacities of 128MB and 256MB and the company plans to release the 512MB card in September. Releases of even greater card capacities depend on the progress development of the CONTROLLER and FLASH functions. This progress is estimated to be completed by next year. Nonetheless, the 128 MB MMCmicro memory card can already store up to 60 500 mega-pixel digital photos or 50 minutes of compressed image and sound files, satisfying customers in general with its storage capacity.
