Introduction

Software-Defined Networking, commonly abbreviated as SDN, has become a hot topic in the networking field. With its architectural design geared towards making networks more flexible and easier to manage, it is generally regarded to become the evolutionary direction for future networks. About Software-Defined Networking

SDN is not a specific technology, but rather a network architecture concept; the main reason for its attention and widening application is that cloud computing, big data, and other emerging business applications are becoming more and more commonly used, and traditional networks cannot keep up with this ever-changing demand. As a result, SDN was born in response to changes in network traffic and services.

In traditional networks, packet transfer behavior is independently controlled, with specific processing capabilities and configuration methods, but this control is decentralized. SDN changes the way traditional networks control data flow. The control surface of each device is placed on an external server and all devices on the transfer path are managed centrally through unified commands from this server; this eliminates a large number of manual configuration processes, which consequently improves efficiency.
